The irony is not lost on me that tomorrow the Chiefs play the Bucs in Super LV. As my (now) 4-year-old says, "It's your team versus my team!" His fandom darts from one team to another, but currently he's a Bucs fan. Because they are the pirate team.
Pirates have been all the rage for the last six months. So this year we celebrated as pirates do.
I trust no one other than Sally's Baking Addiction for all our sweets around here, and her Triple Chocolate Cake did not disappoint today (nor did it for Lamby's quarantine birthday party). And where would a mom be these days without Pinterest for creative party content? Give me a good dose of rip off and duplicate over imagination any day.
I baked Sally's cake in a 9X13, cut it in half hot dog style, used one half as the base, cut the other half into thirds, and then stacked and frosted it. Does that make any sense? I'm just really thankful that pirate ships sail through muddy waters and aren't pristine cruise ships. And that 4-year-olds really only care about frosting.
But don't think we stopped just with the sugar from the cake and frosting. No, no, no. Birthday parties are all about the three S's: sugar, shrieking, and singing.
After the pirates got their bandanas, walked the plank, and read "How to Be a Pirate," they began the scavenger hunt to find a treasure chest.
And since my husband is awesome and exponentially more creative than I am, he put together the scavenger hunt. Each clue was written on the back of a puzzle piece, which when all found, formed the picture of where the treasure was hidden. He also made all the clues rhyme. Like I said, he's awesome.
Imagine a bunch of little kids all scurrying to and huddled around a soccer ball on the field, giddy with joy, and that's basically what it was like.
They found the treasure chest piñata inside Peter's hamper (where else), took some good whacks at it before the candy came pouring out, and filled their loot bags.
After cake and more of the 3 S's, we played a rousing game of Pirate bingo.
The joy was like that of Christmas morning. In fact, our (almost) two-year-old, upon seeing the decorations, called it "Christmas."
Happy Birthday to our adventurous, imaginative, charismatic, and pirate fan 4-year-old!
You can look back on his 3rd Silage Chopper birthday and 1st Balloon birthday if you want to go down memory lane like I do. Apparently I didn't blog his 2nd Elmo birthday. It's like I had a baby girl 3 days later or something.
