DIY Bathroom Reno

Want to know a pet peeve of mine?

Bad "before" pictures and stellar "after" pictures.

You know, the before picture of someone before they went on a diet: they aren't smiling, they're slouching, they took the picture in the closet without the light turned on, etc. etc.

The after picture of someone after said diet: their teeth are all of a sudden whiter, they are literally glowing, and, by the way, their stocks went up, too.

Well. My before pictures aren't very good (and if we're being honest, my after pictures aren't all that great either), BUT this transformation is more than just good lighting.

I certainly forgot the time and effort required to take on a house project, albeit a small one -- let alone with two little kids toddling around.

But, it was a perfect post-quarantine project: my mom watched the kids while I painted away and listened to an audio book. (Thanks, Mom!)

The sheer amount of prep work makes you feel like you've already completed something - when in reality you've just made more work for yourself.

I scoured Pinterest, compiled several of my favorite bathroom pictures that were husband-approved, and secured the job of the UPS guy dropping off my Amazon, Target, and Walmart purchases.

For the cabinets, I chose Valspar's Porcelain Shale, got black knobs, and spray painted the old hinges black.

Because the bathroom has a pocket door, I wanted a light color to brighten up and freshen the space and make it feel light and airy. Valspar's Comet Dust is a really light gray.

I pinned this exact shower curtain no less than 42 times on my board, so it was a no-brainer. When I saw it was only $20, it was in my cart faster than you can say "Amazon Prime."

The only thing worse than running out of toilet paper, is being a guest in someone else's house and running out of toilet paper . . . with the spares nowhere to be found.

Since this is also the bathroom most our guests use, this basket comes to the rescue.

Shelves from Amazon, rug from Target, plant from Target -- and I feel like I have a whole new bathroom!
