I often find myself saving recipes "for later" ... for the next time we have company, or for the next Saturday morning when my husband takes the kids to the park for an hour, or for a nostalgic baking day.
And then, one of those said days comes. Company comes, I have an hour to myself, or I just have the itch to bake.
And I'm left standing in my kitchen thinking, "What to make, what to make." So then I take to Instagram, Pinterest, or my favorite food blog to search for something that's just the ticket.
But what about those poor recipes I saved? Those treats that have never been made? The dough that has never been snagged before popping in the oven? The warm goodies wafting their smell throughout the house?
This year is different.
I looked through all my saved recipes, and pulled out a mere six that I hereby promise to make this fall. (And I also included recipes that didn't make the cut this year but I have made previously.)
My 2019 Fall Baking List:
1. Pumpkin Spice Sugar Cookies by Taste of Home
2. Apple Cider Donuts by Damn Delicious (and I promise...they are)
3. Pumpkin-shaped Sugar cookies (my MIL's recipe! so if you want some, you're just going to have to come to my house)
I'm truly terrible with a piping bag in my hand. So my go-to is plopping on the Wilton #12 piping tip, fill my bag with orange buttercream frosting and making vertical lines while crossing my fingers that they somewhat resemble these below.
4. Taco Spice Chili with Homemade Cornbread by Sally's Baking Addiction
I make this chili every year. It's got sweet potatoes and black beans, so it's not at all your typical chili. Plus it freezes well and pairs beautifully with cornbread. Which I will truthfully admit I am a cornbread snob. But let me tell you - this one rocks. Like I legit ate three slices the first time I made it.
5. Apple Pie by Grandma Ople from All Recipes
I have made this apple pie many times, but I vary it from the recipe found above. Typically I double the middle filling surrounding the apples (death by sugar coma), slice the apples ultra thin, and switch up the order of the directions.
6. Cinnamon Rolls from the KitchenAid mixer cookbook and Chili by me (because apparently this pairing is a thing in this state...but any time there are cinnamon rolls around, I'm in!)
Next time I make my homemade chili, I'll blog the recipe to share with you. What started as a random concoction has actually became a recipe. Though it's all in my head so I truly could not give you the recipe right now.
